Joint Degree Program


 LSUHSC School of Medicine and Louisiana Tech University Graduate School

An integrated program through which it is possible to obtain degrees in medicine and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering is offered through a joint program between the School of Medicine in Shreveport and Louisiana Tech University, in nearby Ruston, LA. Acceptance into the program requires acceptance by both schools and by a joint M.D./Ph.D. Committee. Applicants should apply through AMCAS in the usual way for admission to the medical school, and should contact the Graduate Director for the College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech University, P. O. Box 10348, 600 W. Arizona, Ruston, LA 71272, for details of admission by their school.

In this M.D./Ph.D. program, the first two years of medical school are completed at LSUHSC in Shreveport. The student must then pass Step 1 of the USMLE. The student then enters the Ph.D. program at Louisiana Tech University. When all the requirements for the Ph.D. degree have been completed, the student then returns to LSUHSC in Shreveport to complete the final two years of medical school. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA during the entire length of the program.
