OBJECTIVES
To teach the students how to set up hypothesis and conduct research in the areas of Orthopaedic
Biomechanics and Biomaterials under the guidance of a faculty member and a Research Associate.
GOALS
The course is aimed towards the students who show interest in Orthopaedics or worked in the Biomechanics laboratory during medical school attendance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES OF SENIOR STUDENTS
At the beginning of the course, the student will meet with the course director and decide on a project of mutual interest and prepare a research proposal including a hypothesis. The student may assist in harvesting the bones from cadavers in the Anatomy Laboratory, to clean the bones, to prepare the specimens and to assist in doing the biomechanical measurements in the Instron Mechanical testing machines. At the end of the course period the student will prepare a report summarizing any results and conclusions.
READING ASSIGNMENTS
Books, review articles and results of database searches in the specific field of research.
