OBJECTIVES AND/OR GOALS
• Learn to perform a thorough oral, head, and neck exam.
• Learn to administer local and regional anesthesia for oral, head, and neck procedures.
• Exposure to a variety of pediatric and adult patients with head and neck disease process.
• Observing and “scrubbing in” on operative cases.
SPECIFIC DUTIES OF SENIOR STUDENTS
• Participating in various outpatient procedures (tooth extractions, biopsies, suturing, I.V. sedations).
• Participating in surgery cases (facial fractures, facial reconstructive surgery, cosmetic facial surgery, craniofacial surgery, head and neck tumor surgery).
READING ASSIGNMENTS
Students are encouraged to read about those patients cared for by the oral and maxillofacial surgery service during his/her rotation. Ample reading sources will be available.
