Student Code of Conduct

The LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport (LSUHSC-S) Student Code of Conduct outlines the high standards of academic, professional, and ethical behavior expected of all medical students. It mandates that students uphold principles of honesty, integrity, and respect, both on and off campus, and comply with all LSUHSC-S policies and relevant laws. Violations of the Code, including academic dishonesty, providing false information, harassment, or unprofessional conduct, may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Students are also required to report any legal infractions promptly. The policy aims to foster a respectful, dignified learning environment and is essential for maintaining professionalism in the medical field.

Statement of Professionalism

The LSUHS School of Medicine holds professionalism as a core value for all faculty, residents, fellows, staff, and medical students, expecting them to demonstrate this in all areas of education, research, clinical care, and administration. This policy outlines the standards for professional behavior, provides mechanisms for reporting unprofessional conduct, and encourages a culture of respect, accountability, and continuous improvement. Faculty and students are expected to embody qualities such as integrity, compassion, conscientiousness, duty, excellence, integrity, life-long learning, respect, social responsibility, and teamwork in their interactions.

Student Mistreatment Policy

The LSUHSC-S School of Medicine is committed to maintaining a safe and effective learning environment where students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff work collaboratively to promote high-quality patient care. This policy outlines the institution’s commitment to fostering a respectful learning atmosphere, defines student mistreatment, and establishes clear procedures for reporting and addressing such concerns. LSUHSC-S does not tolerate mistreatment and offers multiple confidential avenues for students to report incidents.

Addressing Unprofessional Behavior

The LSUHSC-S School of Medicine expects students to demonstrate professional behavior throughout their time in medical school, including responsibility to patients, peers, faculty, and themselves. This policy outlines standards for conduct, self-improvement, attendance, and participation in academic activities. Professional behavior is also considered in course grading, and unprofessional conduct can result in disciplinary actions such as probation or dismissal. Reports of unprofessional behavior are handled through a structured process, which may involve review by the Professionalism Committee.
