This two week elective will familiarize students with the basic skills in the interpretation of images of the chest, abdomen, neurological and musculoskeletal systems. Students will learn the importance of history and clinical data in the proper interpretation of imaging exams and the role of radiographic findings in the development of a differential diagnosis. Selection of appropriate imaging studies for the diagnostic work-up of common medical problems and the contraindications for and clinical impact of specific studies will also be emphasized. In addition, students will receive basic instruction in the fundamentals of physics relevant to commonly used imaging modalities as well as the principles of safety and radiation protection for patients and health care personnel.
