ELECT EANEE - Regional Anesthesiology/Acute Pain Service
Location: Academic Medical Center at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport St. Mary’s 4 Credits
Goals: To gain a exposure to regional anesthesia techniques for perioperative and chronic pain management.
Objectives: To learn ultrasound anatomy of the following upper extremity blocks: interscalene, supraclavicular, axillary, and wrist blocks.
To learn the ultrasound anatomy of the following lower extremity blocks: femoral, adductor canal, popliteal, and ankle blocks
To discuss local anesthetic drugs and adjuvant medication used to prolong regional anesthesia
Use the ultrasound to locate major anatomical structures associated with upper and lower extremity blocks
To appreciate how to diagnose and treat common chronic pain conditions with medications, physical therapy and pain procedures, including for patients with cervical/lumbar disc disease, sacroiliitis, and cervical/lumbar facet arthritis.
To appreciate the role of interventional pain modalities for pain medicine, including ultrasound and fluoroscopy approaches, and the role of radiofrequency ablation, injections, spinal cord stimulation, sacroiliac fusion, and intrathecal medicine delivery in these patients.
