MEDAMB 300 - Ambulatory Subspecialty Internal Medicine Clerkship

2 credit hours

In this two week rotation the students will be exposed to the practice of Internal Medicine in the ambulatory setting as well to the practice of Subspecialty Internal Medicine. The students will be assigned to a subspecialty medicine ward team, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, or Cardiology and will participate as part of the health care team. Students record the history and physical examination on a limited number of patients under close supervision.  Attending rounds are conducted regularly by faculty for students and house staff.  These rounds are oriented toward the problems and care of ward patients.  Students will also attend General Medicine Ambulatory Clinic.  The students are expected to examine patients for a thorough History and Physical which they will present to the attending physician.  The students will formulate and discuss a plan of care for each patient problem.  They will review medications on a patient and discuss with the attending physician.  A special emphasis will be placed on teaching communication  skills, humanism, and medication cost and compliance.
