University Police


Functions and Responsibilities

Established by Act RS:17-1805 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, the University Police function with full authority for the protection of the LSUHSC-S Community including students, employees, visitors and property. It is also the responsibility of this office to uphold federal, state and local laws, University regulations, and to provide assistance, guidance and coordination in emergencies and unusual situations.

Orientation of all new students, faculty and staff includes a lecture on Health Sciences Center rules and regulations and on personal safety. Locations and telephone numbers of all University Police Centers are provided in student packets and handbooks. Employment Requirements

To become a member of the LSUHSC-S University Police, Civil Service requires an applicant to have one year of police experience, or college training may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for the year of experience. To become a commissioned officer of the LSUHSC-S University Police, officers must complete and graduate from Police Officers Standard Training (P.O.S.T.) certification training.
